Last weekend an interesting event took place in the town centre of Reading: Eat Reading, a programme of food, drinks and cooking events. What I found interesting was that alongside some chain names there was a strong presence of local and independent restaurants offering their food and tasters to the people attending and live demonstrations. It was a great use of the town centre space bringing the community together and in direct contact with those that often in the homogeneous sameness of the food offers of high streets of town centres offer an alternative and an option.
I thought of them as a gang, a local food gang and their mugshots were there, waiting to be taken.
